Six things the 407C X3 Gold does
-
Precise 2 MOA dot
One clean 2 MOA dot and nothing else in the window. It covers about 2 inches at 100 yards: fine enough for precise shots, quick to find on the draw.
-
Solar Failsafe + auto brightness
New on the X3: a forward-facing photodiode reads the target light and sets reticle brightness automatically, while the top solar cell keeps the reticle running if the battery fails.
-
Gold Super LED
A 590 nm gold emitter chosen to stand out against bright targets and visually busy backgrounds, rated for up to 100,000 hours on a single CR1632 at setting 6.
-
Shake Awake
Motion sensor sleeps the dot after 10 minutes of stillness (1 h, 12 h or off are selectable) and wakes it the instant the pistol moves, at the last setting.
-
Lockout Mode
Hold “+” three seconds to lock the buttons. A bump in the holster cannot change your brightness until you unlock it.
-
Side-loading CR1632
The battery tray slides out of the side, so a battery change never disturbs your zero. Runs up to 100,000 hours at setting 6.

RMR-pattern footprint
The 407C X3 uses the industry-standard RMR-pattern footprint, so it mounts directly on slides cut for the Trijicon RMR and on RMR adapter plates. Window is 0.91″ × 0.67″; the optic weighs 1.55 oz with battery.
X3 vs X2 at a glance
Same footprint and controls as the 407C X2; the X3 is a touch wider for the new light sensor and reinforced housing.

Holosun 407C X3 Gold questions, answered
What is the Holosun HS407C-X3-GD?
The HS407C-X3-GD is the gold version of Holosun’s 407C X3, an open-reflex pistol sight with a single 2 MOA dot. It mounts on the RMR footprint, sets its own brightness with a forward-facing light sensor, runs on a side-loading CR1632 backed by Solar Failsafe, and is rated up to 100,000 hours of battery life at setting 6.
What is new on the Holosun 407C X3 vs the 407C X2?
The X3 adds a forward-facing light sensor for true automatic brightness (the X2 set brightness from its top solar cell), a slightly larger 0.91 × 0.67 inch window, and a reinforced 7075-T6 housing that is a little wider (1.31 in). Holosun rates the X3 at up to 100,000 hours versus 50,000 on the X2, and brightness moves to 8 daylight and 4 night-vision settings. Shake Awake, Lockout Mode, the side battery tray and the RMR footprint carry over.
What is the difference between the 407C X3 and the 507C X3?
They share the same housing, window, battery, footprint and features. The 407C X3 has a single 2 MOA dot; the 507C X3 adds Holosun’s Multi-Reticle System, which also offers a 32 MOA circle and a circle-plus-dot. Choose the 407C X3 if you want the simplest, uncluttered aiming point.
What footprint does the 407C X3 use?
The industry-standard RMR pattern. It mounts directly on slides cut for the Trijicon RMR and on RMR adapter plates. Holosun includes 6-32 screws in two lengths (7.4 mm and 9.5 mm).
How long does the battery last?
Holosun rates the HS407C-X3-GD at up to 100,000 hours at brightness setting 6 on one CR1632. Shake Awake sleeps the dot when the pistol sits still and wakes it on movement, and the solar cell helps in daylight, so the battery is rarely the limit.
Is the Holosun 407C X3 night-vision compatible?
Yes. It has 12 manual brightness settings: 8 daylight and 4 night-vision, plus automatic brightness from the forward-facing light sensor.
Why choose a gold dot?
Holosun positions the 590 nm gold emitter as its high-contrast option: the dot stays distinct against bright, washed-out targets and cluttered backgrounds where a red dot can blend in. Green (HE407C-X3-GR) is the daylight-visibility pick and red (HS407C-X3-RD) the traditional one. Housing, footprint, battery and dot size are identical across the three.
What is Lockout Mode?
Lockout Mode disables the buttons so a holster or gear bag cannot change your brightness setting. Brightness also has memory, so the optic wakes at the last setting you used.
Does changing the battery affect zero?
No. The CR1632 loads from a side tray using the included multi-tool, so the optic stays on the slide and keeps its zero.
Is the 407C X3 waterproof?
Yes. It is IP67 rated and tested to 5,000 G of vibration, with a working range of −30 °C to 60 °C.
